Boys Varsity Basketball, Girls Varsity Basketball · Cochran, Sawhook Win Cager Classic Scholarships

Each year, B&J Sporting Goods runs the Cager Classic, one of the top postseason high school basketball showcases in Western Pennsylvania.

The three-day showcase held at Highlands High School in late March was cancelled this year due to COVID-19, but that didn’t stop the committee from handing out their annual scholarships worth $500 to one female and one male athlete that would’ve been invited to compete in the classic.

This year, the essay topic was “Nothing Ever Ends Well in Sports, But Why Do We Love It?”

Out of 20 male and 24 female responses given to the panel of six judges, Highlands’ Luke Cochran and Sarah Sawhook were selected as the scholarship winners. Luke became the first male winner from Highlands in the 24 years the scholarship has been awarded and Sarah became the second female winner from Highlands.

Luke will be attending Point Park University in the fall and Sarah will be attending Seton Hill University. Both will be continuing their basketball careers at the collegiate level.

Congratulations to Luke and Sarah!
