The Highlands varsity baseball teal lost to Laurel, 8-7, in a non- section game on Friday.

The Golden Rams took a 2-1 lead in the second on a 2-RBI base hit by senior Tyrus Kerr. Kerr had two hits in the game.

After falling behind 6-2, Highlands cut the deficit to 6-5. Junior Tanner Nulph hit a RBI double, senior punch runner Justin Crilley scored on error and
Nulph scored on a double steal.

Laurel score two insurance runs in the seventh and Highlands answered with two but left the tying run on third. Sophomore Jimmy Kunst hit an RBI double and came around to score on a wild pitch. Kunst finished with two hits.

Also recording hits for the Golden Rams were senior Trent Bielak (two), and juniors Jett Slepak (one) and Seth Helgert (one). Junior Ethan Hewitt reached base via two walks.

Highlands will return to section play on Monday at Freeport at 4:15 p.m.
