The Highlands varsity softball team scored seven runs in the fourth inning, highlighted by a grand slam by Maera Williams, to defeat McKeesport 11-1 in section play on Friday.

Williams also had a double and walked in the game.

The fourth inning started off with a RBI double by Jaycee Haidze before the Williams grand slam. Joie Beacom hit a sacrifice fly and Peyton Smalley doubled and scored on a fielders choice in the inning as well. Beacon finished the game with two hits and a walk.

Highlands jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning. Abbie Deiseroth hit a two-RBI single with the bases loaded and Kassidy Cambal also came around to score on an error. Deiseroth finished the game with three singles and was the winning pitcher, going all five inning and striking out seven.

Cambal doubled and walked twice in the game.

Jess Cekada got the hit and RBI in the fifth inning to invoke the 10-run rule. She finished with two singles.

Also recording hits for Highlands were Riley Pointkowski (two) and Kylie Zourelias (two).

The Golden Rams improve to 6-2 in the section and will travel to Greensburg Salem on Monday at 4 p.m. for another section game.
