The bats stayed hot as the varsity softball team avenged an early season loss to Freeport with a 13-2 win.

The win improves the Golden Rams to 4-2 in the section.

Highlands never trailed after scoring three runs in the second inning, highlighted by a two run single by junior Jess Cekada.

The Golden Rams doubles their lead with three more in the third inning on RBI hits by junior Jaycee Haidze and junior Maera Williams.

The big hitters broke out in the fourth and sixth inning with sophomore Abbie Deiseroth belting her sixth home run of the season and Haidze crushing her fifth home run, a two run shot off the scoreboard. Deiseroth finished with two hits and Haidze had three hits and three RBI.

Highlands scored three more in the seventh with an RBI groundout by senior Joie Beacom And back-to-back RBI doubles by sophomore Riley Pointkowski and sophomore Kassidy Cambal

Senior Kylie Zourelias also recorded two hits.

Haidze was also stellar in the circle, pitching a complete game with 10 strikeouts.

The Golden Rams will host Knoch on Wednesday in a section game at 4 p.m.
